Inspired by Afghan war rugs, these works are about our attempts to tame the chaos of life and create structures, literally homes, churches, government buildings but also families, religions and governments to survive while danger always lurks, from within and without.

Cartoon is meant both in the traditional sense of a preparatory drawing for a mural or tapestry and also to evoke the dark comedy and satire of childhood entertainment.

Kevin Andrew Curran is a New York based artist who makes sculptures, ink drawings and installations. He received an MFA at Tyler School of Art and has had solo exhibitions at Norte Maar in New York and Horta Gallery in Tokyo. His curatorial projects include the Bushwick galleries Laundromat and AIRPLANE. He lives with his family in Glendale, Queens.
